Teaming Up to Change the World - Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC)
Imagine teaming up with thousands of athletes and coaches from across the country to do something truly special that will impact thousands of children on the other side of the world for generations to come... We invite you and your athletes to become a part of an exciting new movement called Student-Athletes Leading Social Change (SALSC). Our mission is to catalyze and connect student-athletes and coaches of all sports who want to change the world. We believe strongly that when people come together for a common cause that is much greater than themselves, special things happen. Our goal for the 09/10 school year is to make a life changing difference for impoverished villages in Africa by sending a group of 15-20 student-athletes to Kenya July 3-12 to help build schools, assist with healthcare, and teach sports skills. In essence, we are adopting African villages to help lift them out of extreme poverty. To learn more, we encourage you to check out our brand new website at SALSC.org
HOW YOU AND YOUR TEAM CAN JOIN THE CAUSE There are many ways that you and your student-athletes can join in this world-changing cause. It's an ideal opportunity to get your players involved in service on a global level - and show them how the little things they do can make a BIG difference. There will even be chances for you and your athletes to join us on this service trip and amazing African adventure if you are interested through our "Come to Kenya" raffle. We encourage you and your team to get involved in this new movement of student-athletes and coaches who are committed to winning on and off the playing fields - and around the world. Here are some simple to more advanced ways of how you and your team can help:
1. Help us spread the word. Our goal is to grow this movement to 10,000+ members strong in the next year so please share this cause with anyone and everyone who you think might be interested - athletes, coaches, ADs, fans, former players, etc. Have them join in on our website, Facebook, and Twitter.
2. Adopt this as your team's cause for the year. Many coaches and schools emphasize service with their student-athletes each year in an effort to help them see the bigger picture. Please consider adopting our school-building mission in Africa as your team's cause for the year.
3. Create simple school and health kits for the Kenyan children.Have your team work together to create simple school and health kits for the Kenyan children we will be serving. These easy to create school and health kits, which include basic supplies like notebooks, pencils, rulers, toothbrushes, and soap, make a HUGE difference for people who have so little. We are partnering with a highly reputable non-profit called Free the Children out of Canada. Click here for complete info on how to assemble and donate the "School and Health Kits. Please mention that you are sending them as part of SALSC.
4. Consider donating to the cause. Your team or school might consider fundraising and donating to the cause. We are offering a special "Come to Kenya" virtual raffle where one of your athletes or coaches gets a chance to join us on the service trip to Kenya. For each $100 you donate to the cause, you will receive a chance to join us. (For example, a $200 donation = 2 raffle chances) We are also offering a "Double Your Chances through December" so that each $100 donation received through December 31, 2009 gets you twice as many raffle chances. ($200 donation = 4 raffle chances) On March 1, 2010, one of the raffle tickets will be drawn and allows the winner to join us on our service trip for 9 days to Kenya - a $3,000 adventure of a lifetime for free simply by donating as little as $100 to the cause. You can donate directly on our secure SALSC Donation site.
5. Fundraise to build a school in Kenya and send someone from your team! Michigan, Illinois, and Lehigh are fundraising to send a group of student-athletes to travel to Kenya July 3-12 to build the schools. You too could build a school and be a part of our Kenya travel team this summer if your team or school is able to raise $11,500 by March 1, 2010. Contact us soon if this is your goal as we have a limited number of spots available. As you can see, there are a variety of ways that you and your athletes can contribute to this new world-changing movement of socially conscious student-athletes and coaches. We encourage you to discuss it with your team to see how you might want to help us change the world! For more information, visit salsc.org or email me at jeff@jeffjanssen.com
