Bobby Bowden's Leadership Lesson

Leadership = Accountability

Our Leadership Lesson comes from Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden, college football's all-time wins leader.

Coach Bowden reminds us:

"Here's one insight that every leader should accept at a deep emotional level, namely,

EVERYTHING THAT OCCURS WITHIN AN ORGANIZATION REFLECTS BACK UPON ITS LEADERS.

The leader is ultimately responsible for all that occurs within the organization. This burden comes with the territory.

Whether fair or not, everything that occurs on your team reflects back on you as a leader.

Why? Because you set the standards of acceptable behavior - athletically, academically, socially. It is up to you to establish these standards, reinforce these standards, and enforce these standards.

It's these standards that have a big bearing on what will occur on your team. Keep in mind that you typically get what you expect of your team - so long as you also expect it of yourself.
